BLUE Peter presenters were left with their hearts in their mouths after leaping from the Transporter Bridge.
Barney Harwood, Lindsey Russell and Radzi Chingyanganya, of the popular children's TV show, bungee jumped off the bridge yesterday in aid of Children In Need.
Speaking before the 160ft jump, the presenters said they spent the night on Teesside in preparation for the bungee and had enjoyed their short stay in the North-east.
Barney, who has been a presenter on the show since 2010, said: "None of us have ever done a bungee jump before and you can't exactly prepare for one either, it's not as if you can practise.
"But this is what Children In Need is all about, it's about doing things you've never done before and putting yourself in scary situations. "Even though we are all terrified and want to run away we just want to show that if you put your mind to something you can do it.
"We've had a really nice time here and the local people have been amazing with us. I had the best bacon butty of my life this morning in Middlesbrough."
Following their leap of faith, the three presenters, boarded a rowing boat from Tees Rowing Club to row from a pontoon at Teesside Nautical Studies to the Tees Barrage to begin a charity triathlon.
Editor of Blue Peter, Ewan Vinnicombe, said the Transporter Bridge was chosen as it is one of the most iconic places to do a bungee jump from in the UK.
He said: "I love bungee jumps and we knew we wanted to get the guys to do one. We were looking all over for one but the majority we could find were from cranes and I didn't like that.
"As soon as we found out about the Transporter I immediately knew we had to do it from here as it is one of the few places where you can bungee jump from a bridge. It just looks fantastic and Blue Peter has also done a lot of work here too, so it was the best choice."
