TV IMPORTS UP 61%. Boosted by the effects of the World Cup, in the first 5 months of 2014 176,800 television sets were imported, up 61% from the 110,500 in the same period in 2013, it was reported July 3, 2014. Importers paid VAT of $47.9 million for these goods in 2014, or an average price of $271 unit, 16% higher than the average price of $233 in the same period in 2013. Mexico's share as the main country of origin increased to 80% for all units, while in January-May 2013 it accounted for 74%. Puerto Quetzal remained the main point of entry for televisions in the country, with 58% of the units, followed by the Central Customs office of Guatemala with 26% and Santo Tomas de Castilla with 9%.
