James Thomson, 26, was asked to leave after lighting a cigarette at a bar in Brighton during a bender with mates.
He assaulted a doorman and police were called. He punched one officer in the face and knocked two over then was pepper sprayed in March. Thomson, who admitted assault, was having difficulty coping with his 63-year-old mum's death.
He got a four month jail term, suspended for two years, 200 hours community service and was tagged by city magistrates.
