TV Les's driver faces jail.

LES Dawson's former chauffeur is facing prison in a 40mph speeding row. Ex-Royal Navy man Thomas Sheldon, from Aston, said he would rather be jailed than co-operate with the courts, and vowed to stand up for "persecuted" drivers. The pensioner, who suffers from severe asthma, was clocked by a speed camera doing 11mph above the 30mph limit in Newtown Row.

He is also accused of failing to reveal who was driving his Ford Escort at the time and is due before magistrates on October 25. "Young people have no guts, but we 70-somethingshave and I will fight this," he said.

"Speed cameras are being used as money boxes to raise police funds. I'm prepared to go to jail over this. I want to make October 25 a drivers' day." Mr Sheldon, aged 74, of Townley Gardens, a former cabbie and lorry driver, worked for Dawson when the comedian was banned from driving during a 12-week run in Birmingham." Police declined to comment today
