TV LIFE: New archbishop tells all.

THE new Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams speaks of some of his hopes and fears as he faces in his new role in a special edition of S4C's Sunday worship series, Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol.

And in the programme today, presenter Huw Llywelym Davies will also learn more about the leader of the worldwide Anglican Church through the eyes of his friends and colleagues. In the programme, Rowan Williams admits that he faces a huge challenge as he takes the helm at a crucial time for the Anglican Church.

"It's quite daunting when I think about the responsibility that I face," says the Archbishop.

"All institutions must change from generation to generation, and that's true about the Anglican Church too."

Dr Williams also accepts that some of the issues which need to be addressed could threaten the unity of the world-wide Church.

Keeping the Church united is the biggest challenge that the Church faces, admits Dr Williams, particularly when it faces contentious issues such as accepting gay priests and recognising gay relationships.

"If a bishopric or region come to such a decision with the welfare of the whole Church in mind, and without ploughing their own furrow, then I can be confident about the future," he says.

Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol is on tonight at 8pm, S4C TRANSL888/889
