TV LARA GOES TO U.S. IN pounds 1m DEAL; EXCLUSIVE.

Byline: TOM NEWTON DUNN

GMTV's Lara Logan is set to leave Britain for American TV in a pounds 1million deal.

She has been headhunted by the giant CBS network and will do her last show for the ITV breakfast programme next week.

Lara, 31, who reported from Afghanistan last year, will front the station's new 60 Minutes Two, a sister programme to the prestige current affairs show.

Secret negotiations have being going on for months after CBS chiefs spotted South African born Lara's reports during the downfall of the Taliban.

She will also be asked to front news reports for prime time news shows alongside celebrity anchorman Dan Rather.

Lara will commute to New York from her London home, where she lives with US born basketball star husband Jason Siemon, 31, who plays for Milton Keynes Lions.

A close friend said last night: "It is a fantastic offer and Lara is absolutely delighted. It's a job of a lifetime, the sort of thing she's always wanted to do."

GMTV editor Martin Frizzell said: "Given Lara's extraordinary work in Afghanistan I am not surprised that TV networks in the US are keen to sign her up."

A source added: "She is a fantastic journalist and will surely be missed. But when 60 Minutes calls it's very hard for anyone to say no."
