TV Jeremy's battle with a tough nut; FISHING.

Byline: RICHARD SMITH

A TELEVISION angler told yesterday how he snared a fish that kills men by biting off their testicles.

ITV's Jeremy Wade, 53, spent weeks hunting in Papua New Guinea after locals claimed the 40lb monster was castrating fishermen - with at least two bleeding to death.

He finally hooked the pacu fish in a small wooden boat - wearing just shorts and a T-shirt.

Jeremy, of Bath, said: "I'd heard of a couple of Papua New Guinea fishermen who were castrated by something in the water.

"The bleeding was so severe that they died.

"When I reeled it in, it had this mouth that was surprisingly human-like, with teeth like molars and powerful jaw muscles."

Pacu fish are from the Amazon, where they need tough teeth to break open seed and nut shells.

Jeremy's catch is in River Monsters series three, on ITV1 from January 3.
