TV GUIDE ON SCREEN FILES PATENT APPLICATION FOR ITS UNIQUE, INTERACTIVE ON-SCREEN PROGRAMMING GUIDE

 ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- TV Guide on Screen President Bruce Davis announced today that the company has filed an application in the U.S. Patent office in Washington, D.C., for a patent on its innovative and powerful interactive on-screen programming guide. The company's guide software, known as "TV Guide On Screen Interactive," is full-featured, yet economical and very easy to use. It has been designed for use with a variety of analog and digital set-top cable converters being developed by General Instrument, Scientific Atlanta and other leading manufacturers.

The magazine's commitment to excellence has made TV Guide one of the best known and most respected brand names in the country. TV Guide On Screen Interactive is the first of a family of interactive on-screen guides that will continue to expand this tradition of excellence in the new interactive age of television," Davis said.
 According to Davis, this unique product will enhance viewer enjoyment of television. It will also give them added convenience and greater control over their viewing options.
 "As we anticipate greatly expanded programming choices and many new, exciting television services carried by cable companies as a result of their increasing use of digital compression, fiber optic networks, broadband switches and computerized set-top converters, cable customers will need advanced navigational tools -- like TV Guide On Screen -- to help them make selections in keeping with individual tastes," he added.
 The TV Guide On Screen family of products consists of three progressively advanced program information services:
 -- On Screen: for today's viewers using current analog set-top converter technology. Passive listings will be displayed.
 -- On Screen Interactive: for the new digital age of two-day viewer participation, offering Flip, Browse and a variety of menu options and features allowing viewers to select service listings by subject, Pay-Per-View and other special promotional categories. This services will also have a lock-out feature enabling viewers to block out programming by channel or show with special codes.
 -- On Screen Interactive Plus: The ultimate premium subscription service offering viewers access to full program information, editorial coverage and other features of TV Guide Magazine. It will also have powerful search capabilities, advanced graphics, personalized interfaces and sophisticated programming navigation systems for the discriminating viewer.
