TV Carol gets 9m viewers.

TV STAR Carol Vorderman attracted nine million viewers for her new show Better Gardens.

Carol's ITV hit easily held its own against BBC1's screening of Manchester United's opening world club championship game.

Carol said last night: "I'm thrilled. It's lovely when you make programmes that so many people enjoy.

"I'm especially pleased about Better Gardens because we were up against Manchester United.

"To get an audience of nine million in those circumstances is special."

Just over 10 million saw the start of United's ill-fated campaign in Brazil.

An ITV source said: "We always knew she'd do fantastically, although a match featuring Manchester United is about the toughest competition a TV programme can have.

"We're delighted. Better Gardens looks set to be as much of a success as Better Homes."
