DOWNTON ABBEY ITV, 9pm All good things must come to an end, and sadly this is the final six-part run of writer Julian Fellowes' globally successful period drama. However, there promises to be plenty of twists and turns before the regulars close the doors for good in a few weeks. In the first offering, Mary's past catches up with her when an unwelcome visitor delivers an ultimatum. While Violet is on the warpath thanks to news about the running of Downton Hospital, those below stairs discover social changes are endangering their futures.

THE X FACTOR ITV, 7pm After more than a decade on air, Simon Cowell's juggernaut talent search was showing signs of fatigue, despite the snappy graphics and lavish set. What it needed was a couple of new younger faces to keep things fresh, and it's safe to say Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora have helped breathe new life into the show, alongside series veteran Cheryl Fernandez-Versini. Now, following a few weeks of auditions in which we endured the good, the bad and the plain awful, the musical wheat has been sorted from the tone deaf chaff and the surviving contestants enter the bootcamp stage.

TIME CRASHERS Channel 4, 8pm The celebrities find themselves working in a Victorian fishery in 1885, where they have one day to fulfil a huge order destined for London's Billingsgate Market. The harsh conditions and backbreaking work prove to be a real shock.

THE GO-BETWEEN BBC1, 9pm Adaptation of LP Hartley's novel, a tragic story of forbidden desire, as seen through the eyes of youngster Leo Colston, who has been invited to stay at his upper class friend Marcus's family home in the summer of 1900. Leo is instantly enthralled by Marcus's sister Marian, and is drawn into a web of deceit as she pursues an illicit affair with a tenant farmer. But unwittingly, young Leo sets in motion a chain of events that ultimately prove the catalyst for tragedy.
