TV's Kurtis and Leybold's Kram To Host R&D 100s Journalist Bill Kurtis, host of public television's "The New Explorer," and Betty Ann Kram, marketing communications manager for Leybold Inficon Inc., will be emcees for the 1991 R&D 100 Awards.
"We are planning a very lively and enjoyable evening, and having Bill and Betty Ann as co-hosts certainly will add to the quality of the program," said Robert Cassidy, R&D Magazine's editor-in-chief, who also serves as R&D 100 chairman.
Now in its 29th year, the awards program recognizes the 100 most significant technical product innovations of the past year. The awards presentation and banquet will be held September 19 at Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry.
Kurtis, a former anchor for the "CBS Morning News" and anchor of CBS affiliate WBBM-TV, Chicago, hs narrated and produced programs for "Nova" and "Frontline." His PBS series, "The New Explorers," focuses on scientists' personal challenges in their explorations of science, nature, and the environment.
Kram has worked as an advertising and public relations consultant and played a major role in founding and promoting Syracuse's Discovery Center of Science and Technology. In 1987 she joined Leybold Inficon, a manufacturer of instruments for analysis and process monitoring and control.
