TURNSTONE AND OFFICE DEPOT FORM MARKETING ALLIANCE TO BRING OFFICE FURNISHINGS AND SERVICES TO ATLANTA'S SMALL BUSINESSES, HOME OFFICES

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich./DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Nov. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Easy access to quality office furnishings has become even easier for Atlanta's small and home-based businesses and telecommuters with the announcement of a joint market test by Turnstone, the new Steelcase company for small businesses, and Office Depot, North America's largest office products superstore chain. The announcement of the new marketing alliance was made today by James P. Hackett, president of Turnstone, and Mark Begelman, president of Office Depot, Inc. (NYSE: ODP).
Turnstone launched its national roll out in Atlanta and Cincinnati in September. It is supported by a direct marketing catalog, telecommunications operations and local consultants.
"Reaching small business customers involves a variety of marketing avenues," said Hackett. "We expect this exciting partnership with Office Depot to enhance Turnstone's brand awareness significantly -- and to increase our Atlanta market penetration."
"Office Depot is proud to be the only mass merchant discount chain in the country to offer this top-quality office furniture from Turnstone," said Begelman. "We're always looking for new ways to serve our business customers, and this arrangement enables us to offer well- designed products, all value priced with our everyday low-price guarantee. If this market test is successful in Atlanta, we hope to roll out these Turnstone office furnishings throughout our chain of retail stores," he said.
Office Depot will carry select Turnstone(TM) products in its 12 Atlanta-area outlets, beginning in January 1994. Two of these locations will more than triple their office furniture display areas to incorporate Turnstone and other new products. The display areas will be staffed by additional dedicated furniture salespeople specially trained to provide individual service to furniture customers.
Innovative point-of-purchase displays, developed jointly by Office Depot and Turnstone, will provide customers with a wealth of information ranging from product description to office-planning and workplace issues. All display materials have been created to provide expert assistance to customers seeking products designed to help them work more effectively.
Turnstone products available through Office Depot include: three lines of desking, plus mobile group work tables and storage products, such as lateral files and a mobile easel designed specifically for small business offices. Delivery, set-up and installation can be arranged through Office Depot.
Turnstone, which serves the office furnishings needs of small businesses and home offices exclusively, is headquartered in Grand Rapids.
Office Depot is a publicly held corporation, listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ODP. It is headquartered in Delray Beach and currently operates 339 stores throughout the United States and Canada.
