TURNING UP THE HOLIDAY POWER

MADISON, Wis., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- This holiday season you'll want to be sure to have the power to bring holiday gifts to life. With more than 1.5 billion battery-operated products on the market, it is likely that at least a few of them will top holiday gift wish lists.
Now Renewal(R), Rayovac Corporation's new reusable alkaline battery system, ensures Americans won't be left powerless...especially during the holiday season. Using breakthrough technology, Renewal is a state- of-the-art battery that has long-life alkaline power but can be reused 25 times or more when recharged in a Renewal Power Station(TM).
Rayovac's Renewal reusable alkaline batteries out-perform Nickel Cadmium (NiCad) rechargeable batteries, keeping holiday gifts such as personal stereos playing and remote control cars running. Renewal gives far more power than old-fashioned NiCads -- up to three times more in the first cycle, more than twice as many hours over 25 cycles. And, unlike NiCad rechargeable batteries that must be charged before first- time use, hassle-free Renewal batteries come ready-to-use. Compared to the three-month shelf life of NiCads, Renewal batteries hold their charge up to five years.
The Renewal reusable alkaline batteries have no cadmium added and are 99.975 percent mercury-free. Renewal batteries are available in sizes AAA, AA, C and D in retail outlets across the country.
To power the new reusable alkaline batteries, Rayovac also introduced two chargers or Power Stations: a portable wall unit that charges up to four Renewal AA or AAA batteries; and a table-top unit for charging up to eight of any Renewal combination of D, C, AA or AAA.
The Power Stations feature a built-in computer chip that monitors and charges each Renewal battery individually to maximize performance on every charge. The Power Stations have been designed exclusively for Renewal batteries and will not charge NiCads or any other type of battery. Renewal AA and AAA batteries will charge in three to five hours, Cs and Ds overnight.
Renewal batteries retail between $5 to $6 for C and D two packs or AA and AAA four packs. The price for the Power Stations is $15 for the smaller wall unit and $30 for the family unit.
Consumers can call Rayovac's hotline, 1-800-237-7000, to request a Renewal brochure and the location of their local Renewal retailer.
