TURNER TO HANDLE RENOVATIONS AND REPAIRS
 AT OAKLAND'S HISTORIC CITY HALL
NEW YORK, Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Construction Company will handle construction management services for the $46 million repair and renovation of Oakland California's historic City Hall. According to an announcement made today by the Turner Corporation (AMEX: TUR), America's leading general builder, Turner's San Francisco office is currently performing preconstruction services with construction scheduled to start in March 1992 on the first high-rise government building in the western United States.
The contract calls for both historic and seismic retrofit renovations to the 78-year old structure. In addition, it calls for repair of damage sustained by the 18-story building during the 1988 earthquake. VBN Corp. of Oakland is the architect on the project.
"All of us lived through the terror of that earthquake. It feels great to be part of the recovery as well," said Robert K. Wilson, vice president and general manager of Turner's San Francisco office.
Turner, which has operated in the Bay Area since 1968, has considerable experience in seismic construction. Turner is also providing preconstruction services for six historic buildings in San Francisco surrounding and including City Hall. In addition, Turner has handled renovations of such well-known historic buildings as Trappers Alley and the Penobscot building in Detroit, Emily Morgan Hotel in San Antonio and the Sears House and the Pavilion at the Old Post Office, both in Washington, D.C.
Based in New York City, the Turner Corporation, through Turner Construction Company and other construction subsidiaries, is the nation's largest builder of commercial, industrial, hospital and healthcare, institutional, government building and multi-unit housing projects. Operating through more than 34 offices, Turner has construction projects underway throughout the United States and abroad.
