TURNER STEINER INTERNATIONAL SECURES CONTRACT FOR AIRPORT IN QATAR

NEW YORK, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Steiner International ("TSI") has been selected to provide preconstruction services for the new $350 million airport project at Doha International Airport in Qatar, an independent state bordering eastern Saudi Arabia, according to an announcement made today by The Turner Corporation (AMEX: TUR). TSI is owned equally by The Turner Corporation and Karl Steiner Holding Corporation of Zurich, Switzerland.
The project, being designed by Aeroport de Paris, calls for the construction of a new airport, strictly designated for civilian transportation. It will include a terminal complex, mosque, royal terminal pavilion, runway taxiway system, aircraft hardstands, complete support and utilities facilities and systems and auto parking.
The company's work on this project continues a long-standing relationship with the government of Qatar. In 1983, Turner International Industries served as construction manager on the University of Qatar project. Following the university project, Turner completed the six-story headquarters building for Qatar's Ministry of Finance and Petroleum Affairs. The airport project falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture.
"Turner International has had a strong presence in Qatar for more than 10 years. We are very excited about bringing the expanded resources of Turner Steiner International to our existing clients," commented Nicholas E. Billotti, manager of Middle East for Turner Steiner International. "We look forward to building a world-class and distinctive airport for the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture."
TSI was formed in July 1992 to allow the parent companies to better serve their respective clients and, by drawing on the resources of both companies, to better meet the predicted growth in international construction opportunities. Currently, TSI has projects underway in Kuwait, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Japan, the United Kingdom, Berlin and Brussels.
Karl Steiner Holding Corporation, the largest builder in Switzerland, is an exclusively family-owned company headquartered in Zurich with subsidiaries in France, Germany, Italy and Austria. During 1992, the Steiner group had consolidated invoiced sales of $690 million (SF1,011 million).
The Turner Corporation, through Turner Construction Company and other construction subsidiaries, is the nation's leading builder of healthcare, institutional, retail, commercial, industrial, manufacturing, interiors, biotech/pharmaceutical, research and development/laboratories, government building and multi-unit residential projects. Operating through more than 35 offices, Turner has construction projects underway throughout the United States and abroad. During 1992, The Turner Corporation completed $2.6 billion of construction.
