TURNER CONSTRUCTION COMPANY TO MANAGE CONSTRUCTION
OF JUVENILE COURT YOUTH CENTER IN CINCINNATI
NEW YORK, Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Construction Company, in association with d.e. Foxx and Associates, has been awarded a construction management contract of the new Hamilton county Juvenile Youth Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, according to an announcement made today by the Turner Corporation (AMEX: TUR), the nation's leading general builder.
Turner's Cincinnati office has begun preconstruction services for the new $19 million facility. The 160,000 square-foot project will be designed to house up to 160 juvenile detainees and offenders while they await trial or sentencing. The design of the facility takes full advantage of the sloping site and is fully compatible with the surrounding neighborhood. The project is broken into housing modules with a residential brick flavor to maintain this compatibility. Existing site trees and a park-like setting at the entrance will be maintained. The architect for the project is Glaser Associates, structural design is by Graham Obermeyer & Partners and mechanical/electrical by H.A. Williams & Associates.
"We are very pleased to have been selected for this project," commented Kenneth K. Butler, Turner vice president and general manger of the company's Cincinnati office. "In addition to our local construction management expertise, we are able to add Turner's nationwide corrections construction experience to this job. When complete, this facility will represent a significant community investment toward fulfilling the Juvenile Court's mission for serving the youth in this area."
Turner, with considerable corrections experience, is currently handling construction of the Cook County Detention Center in Chicago and recently completed the Wayne County Detention Facility in Hamtramck, Mich. Turner has operated an office in Cincinnati since 1954 and is currently working on such projects as the renovations of the Cincinnati Art Museum, Drake Center, facilities for the University of Cincinnati and the expanding Toyota facility, Georgetown, Ky.
Based in New York City, the Turner Corporation, through Turner Construction Company and other construction subsidiaries, is the nation's largest builder of commercial, industrial, hospital and healthcare, institutional, government building and multi-unit housing projects. Operating through more than 35 offices, Turner has construction projects underway throughout the United States and abroad.
During 1991, the Turner Corporation completed $2.7 billion of construction.
