TURNER CONSTRUCTION COMPANY FINISHES NEW LABORATORY, SET TO START MANUFACTURING FACILITY FOR GENZYME OUTSIDE OF BOSTON

NEW YORK, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Construction Company's Boston office has completed the first phase of a contract with Genzyme Corporation for construction of a new quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) laboratory and manufacturing facility in Framingham, Mass., according to an announcement made today by The Turner Corporation (AMEX: TUR), the nation's leading general builder. This is Turner's second contract for Genzyme in a greater Boston area in the past 12 months.
When complete, the new structure will house a state-of-the-art 15,000 square-foot QA/QC laboratory and an estimated 40,000 square-foot manufacturing
and pilot laboratory facility. Construction of the laboratory commenced immediately upon award notification in September and was turned over to Genzyme, fully operational, on Dec. 5. Construction of the manufacturing facility, designed by Quasar Engineering and Badger Engineers, is scheduled to start early next year. It is projected that the structure will be ready for the validation process by late summer 1993. All work is being performed on an accelerated fast-track basis.
"We are very pleased to be continuing our association with Genzyme with this project," commented George O'Reilly, Turner vice president and general manager of the company's Boston office. "Turner owes much to contracts with repeat clients and we are happy that we can now include Genzyme among them."
