TURNER CONSTRUCTION COMPANY AWARDED TWO SAN JOSE AREA HEALTHCARE JOBS
NEW YORK, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Construction Company has secured two construction management contracts, totaling more than $240 million, for hospital projects in the San Jose, Calif., area, according to an announcement made today by The Turner Corporation (AMEX: TUR), the nation's leading general builder. Turner's San Jose office will be handling projects at the Valley Medical Center in San Jose and at the Palo Alto V.A. Hospital in Palo Alto.
Preconstruction services are just beginning in San Jose on the H-1 Replacement Facility. The contract calls for construction of a 330,000 square-foot hospital expansion. The seven-story-plus-basement project includes a 100-bed inpatient care unit, diagnostic services, support services and expanded central plant. Construction of the $105 million job for the county of Santa Clara is scheduled to start in June 1994. This is the third time Turner has worked with Anshen + Allen, the San Francisco-based firm for the job. Project completion is scheduled for May 1997.
For the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Turner is handing construction of the Replacement Facility for the Palo Alto V.A. Hospital. The project, with a construction cost of $135 million, involves construction of a 646,000 square-foot hospital to replace the existing central facility which was damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. The contract calls for construction of three buildings, including a one-story diagnostic radiation center, a four-story (with partial basement) hospital facility to house a 228-bed inpatient care unit, surgery and research laboratories, and a four-story attached administration building for administrative offices, food service, an auditorium and medical research facilities. Turner is currently providing preconstruction services for the project with multi-phased construction scheduled to start in January 1993. The project, designed by Ratcliff Architects, is scheduled for completion in early 1996.
Turner Construction Company has considerable healthcare construction experience and was named the nation's leading healthcare construction manager earlier this year by Modern Healthcare magazine. Turner established its San Jose office five years ago. Current or recent clients include Hewlett Packard, Syntex, Loral Space Systems and Stanford University. Turner operates five other offices in the state of California located in San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego and a Costa Mesa office which serves Orange County.
Based in New York City, The Turner Corporation, through Turner Construction Company and other construction subsidiaries is the nation's largest builder of hospital and healthcare, industrial, cultural, institutional, government building, multi-unit residential, commercial and retail projects. Operating through more than 35 offices, Turner has construction projects underway throughout the United States and abroad. During 1991, The Turner Corporation completed $2.7 billion of construction.
