TURNER CONSTRUCTION AWARDED ST. LOUIS AIRPORT EXPANSION CONTRACT
NEW YORK, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Turner Corporation (AMEX: TUR) today announced that the St. Louis office of its major subsidiary, Turner Corporation Company, has been awarded a program management contract for the $1.5 billion expansion of the Lambert-St. Louis International Airport. The expansion program will be implemented over the next 10 to 12 years.
Based on aviation qualifications and management experience, a five- member selection committee of St. Louis city officials chose the Turner team on Feb. 26, 1992.
Other members of the Turner team include Burns & McDonnell, a Kansas City-based design firm with an office in St. Louis, and the Chicago-based Unzelman-DuBose Associates, Inc., an airport consulting firm. The team's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise firms include St. Louis-based David Mason & Associates, Coad Rascovar & Associates, Flemco Corporation and Atlanta-based Diversified Program Management.
Together, the Turner team has been involved in the planning, design and management of projects at more than 50 airports in the country, as well as a wide variety of military bases and joint-use facilities. Additionally, the team has completed projects at 15 major international airports.
The Turner team will serve as an extension of the airport staff to facilitate and control all aspects of the program. The team will develop design standards and criteria, design and construction strategies, maintain a comprehensive management information control system and provide overall administration and coordination of the program.
The expansion program will accommodate four new runways, adding capacity in all weather conditions. The plan also includes doubling the passenger terminal space to accommodate an additional 20 million passengers and adding 39 passenger gates. Parking will also be increased from 14,000 spaces to 25,000 spaces.
The program will provide 22 million worker-hour construction jobs, the equivalent of a full year's employment for 11,000 workers. More than 28 million worker-hours in supplier industries and service industry jobs, the equivalent of a full year's employment for 14,000 workers, will also be provided through the expansion program.
Turner operates two Missouri offices in St. Louis and Kansas City, with more than $180 million in current construction volume. Turner has been active in St. Louis since 1964.
