TURNER BROADCASTING TO LAUNCH WORLDWIDE CARTOON NETWORK

TURNER BROADCASTING TO LAUNCH WORLDWIDE CARTOON NETWORK
ATLANTA, Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (AMEX: TBS.A) today unveiled plans to create a 24-hour cartoon network for audiences throughout the world.
The Cartoon Network is intended to utilize the company's vast library of animation programming, which includes more than 1,000 theatrical cartoons in the Turner Entertainment Co. (TEC) library and over 3,000 half-hours of animation programming in the Hanna-Barbera library. TBS plans to launch The Cartoon Network on Oct. 1, 1992, at Noon (ET).
"A cartoon network is the natural extension of our recently acquired interest in the Hanna-Barbera library, much as TNT and TNT Latin America have proven to be ideal vehicles for the MGM movie library. Additionally, cartoons, like movies, cross cultural lines very well and translate easily into other languages," said TBS Board Chairman R.E. Turner. "Our plans emphasize again our belief that the international marketplace presents the best opportunities for future programming growth."
Turner Broadcasting's cartoon assets, including those currently licensed to third parties, are among the most popular and successful animation series ever produced. Among them are Popeye, Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny, Porky Pig, Daffy Duck, Droopy Dog, Screwy Squirrel, Tweety, Sylvester, Yosemite Sam and Foghorn Leghorn, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Huckleberry Hound, Top Cat, Magilla Gorilla, Yogi Bear, Johnny Quest, Scooby Doo, Secret Squirrel, and Snagglepuss.
