TURNER BEGINS CONSTRUCTION OF THE OREGON ARENA

 NEW YORK, July 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Turner Construction Company and Donald M. Drake Company have commenced construction of the new $262 million Oregon Arena Project in Portland, Ore., according to an announcement made today by The Turner Corporation (AMEX: TUR). When complete, the arena will be the home of the National Basketball Association's Portland Trail Blazers.
 The total project call for construction of the 20,340-seat arena; a 380,000 square foot attached seven-story 1,057-car parking garage; a 62,000 square foot entertainment complex housing three restaurants, a box office and office space over a 160,000 square foot 369-car garage; and a huge outdoor plaza linking the new facilities to the existing Memorial Coliseum and transit station; infrastructure work including the realignment of roads and utilities. Construction of the project, designed by Ellerbe Becket Architects, is scheduled for completion in August 1995.
 "This is a great project for the Trail Blazers and the City of Portland. We are very happy to be part of it," commented Thomas G. Mormino, Turner vice president and general manager in charge of the company's activities in the Pacific Northwest. "The Trailblazers will get a first-class home and Portland will have a new state-of-the-art entertainment complex to draw and house a wide variety of functions and activities."
 Turner has considerable experience in the construction of arenas and sports facilities. In Cleveland, Ohio, Turner is currently handling construction of the Gateway Arena, a 21,200-seat, multipurpose arena that will house the Cleveland Cavaliers. In 1989, the company completed the Charlotte (North Carolina) Coliseum, home of the Hornets. Other experience includes construction of or at the New Chicago Stadium, the Cleveland Browns Training Facility, Tiger Stadium in Detroit and Mile High Stadium in Denver.
