TURNER, COLFORD AND MARINO SHOULDER BROADENED EXECUTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
 AT UNITED WATER RESOURCES
HARRINGTON PARK, N.J., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The board of directors of United Water Resources (NYSE: UWR) has expanded the responsibilities of three of its executives, as part of an ongoing management succession plan.
John J. Turner, 42, was elected vice president and controller of the company and its two major utilities, Hackensack and Spring Valley water companies. William D. Colford, 47, was appointed vice president- administration for Hackensack Water Company and Spring Valley Water Company. John T. Marino, 40, was appointed treasurer of Hackensack and Spring Valley water companies. Marino has been treasurer of United Water Resources since 1988 and will continue in that capacity.
In announcing the board's actions, Chairman Robert A. Gerber explained that the management changes are part of a succession plan within United Water designed to create a smooth transition to deal with the scheduled retirements of senior executives. In December, United Water's board named Donald Correll as president. At that time, the board also appointed Dennis Dugan as executive vice president and George Haskew as vice chairman of the board.
"The changes announced today continue our planned, coordinated succession provisions," Gerber said. "We're creating a management team that will lead the company well into the next century."
"John Turner's wealth of financial experience contributes to United Water's financa?l success," Correll, the recently elected president, commented. "His leadership abilities have proven themselves again and again."
As vice president and controller, Turner will head the accounting, tax, treasury, budgets and internal audit departments of the company. He joined United Water in September 1987 as controller. Previously, he was secretary/treasurer of AV Graphic Productions Inc. of Troy, Mich., and earlier was an audit manager for Arthur Andersen & Co. A certified public accountant, Turner holds a master's degree in business administration (M.B.A.) from Michigan State University. He performed his undergraduate work at the University of Michigan. Turner and his wife reside in Westwood and have one child.
"Bill Colford's broad range of experience and knowledge about the workings of the company make him the ideal person to head up our administrative functions," Correll said. "I have no doubt that he'll continue to implement efficient, cost-saving measures in the departments he'll head."
As vice president-administration, Colford will oversee the administrative support, rate development, purchasing, risk management, human resources and information systems departments. Colford joined the company in 1973 and has held a wide array of positions, including assistant treasurer and most recently assistant to the senior vice president-administration. He holds a bachelor's degree in marketing management from St. Peter's College. Colford and his wife reside in Ridgewood, and are the parents of three children.
"The board's action has brought John Marino into the utility realm, which will benefit us, our customers, and our shareholders," Correll said. "I'm sure that his know-how and common-sense management style will result in cost-effectiveness and savings."
With the assumption of his new duties as treasurer of Hackensack and Spring Valley water companies, Marino also will supervise the financial analysis department. Prior to joining the company in 1988, he was a vice president at Goldman, Sachs and Company. He holds an M.B.A. from New York University and a bachelor's degree from Glassboro State College.
