INDUSTRY MINISTER JOINS DISCUSSION ON PRESIDENTIAL TERM IN OFFICE
Turkish Trade and Industry Minister Nihat Ergun was last to join a discussion over when the country's sitting president's term in office ends. "Mr. President was elected for a term of seven years. It is legally wrong to say that his term ends in five. We have lowered the presidential term to five years in the parliament. What if we have made it ten, for instance. Would he be sitting in for 10 years, then," Ergun said. The minister said it was the parliament's job to put end to the ambiguity while others have argued that Turkey's high election board had the final say on the issue.
CRISIS OVER APPOINTMENTS OF SENIOR JUDGES, PROSECUTORS DEEPENING
A row over the appointments of senior judges and prosecutors was seen as deepening as the Justice Ministry had withdrawn a decree for the appointments of heads and deputy heads of high criminal courts, and of chief prosecutors. The justice minister and his undersecretary also made a no show at Wednesday's meeting of the Supreme Board of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK). The board's head, Kadir Ozbek, has said the Justice Ministry had no authority to withdraw the decree over the appointments.
CRISIS AT HSYK, ERGENEKON LOCKS MEETING
Legist members of the Supreme Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSYK) asked the judges and prosecutors who are suspects under cases like Balyoz to be changed. Upon such development, the justice minister terminated the council meetings as 79 appointments could not be carried out.

TAX ON CIGARETTE AND ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE
Social Security Institution (SGK) and World Health Organization's (WHO) Turkey representation have been working on a project that there will be tax on cigarette and alcoholic beverages. 1-2 percent tax on cigarette and alcoholic beverage will be transferred to the SGK. The fund will be used in treatments especially for cancer and cardiovascular diseases.
1001 INVENTIONS IN ISTANBUL
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan inaugurated the exhibition 1001 Inventions featuring many scientific achievements the world inherited from the Muslim civilization between 7th and 17th centuries in Istanbul. Delivering a speech in the inauguration of the exhibition in Sultanahmet Square, Erdogan said nearly half million people visited 1001 Inventions exhibition in British capital of London. Erdogan said he believed that numerous foreign and Turkish people would visit the exhibition which would run till October 5, 2010.
