 TURKEY POINT RECEIVES SAFETY AWARD
FROM STATE OF FLORIDA'S DIVISION OF SAFETY
MIAMI, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Florida Power & Light Company's Turkey Point nuclear power plant today received a special award recognizing the plant's safety accomplishment of five million man-hours without a lost-time accident. The award was presented to FPL at opening ceremonies of the Florida Safety & Health Conference in Tampa, by the State Department of Labor and Employment Security, Division of Safety.
To achieve the five million safe man-hours, the 1,000-plus employees at the Turkey Point plant -- which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week -- worked safely since July 1990, without an employee losing time from work due to an accident. "We extend our congratulations on the achievement of this safety milestone and express our appreciation for continued efforts in making your workplace a safe Florida workplace," said Bert Garrido, director of the Division of Safety.
Turkey Point Site vice president, Tom Plunkett on achieving the milestone said, "Two years without a lost-time accident is a direct result of each individual making sure of his or her own personal safety because individual safety equals workplace safety -- this is something we all take pride in."
