TUNISIA : EIB offers additional 600mn loan to Tunisia.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) provided more than 600 million euros in additional loans to unrest-hit Tunisia. EIB is the financial arm of the European Union.

According to EIB Vice President Philippe de Fontaine Vive, the bank was able to assess the priority needs of Tunisians in the area of economic and social development and proposed five actions with respect to infrastructure as well as small and medium enterprises.

EIB will provide 140 million loan euros to set up a new fertilizer plant in Mdhilla, in the southern Gafsa province.

The bank has also provided 160 million euros loan for a large-scale program to modernize Tunisia's road system and 310 million euros to support small and medium sized enterprises in underprivileged areas.
