TSYS REPORTS 18.3 PERCENT INCREASE IN NET INCOME FOR THE SECOND QUARTER

 COLUMBUS, Ga., July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Total System Services, Inc. (NYSE: TSS), the Columbus-based bankcard data processing company, today announced revenues and net income for the second quarter of 1993.
 Net income for the second quarter increased 18.3 percent to $4,726,780, or $.15 per share, up from $3,995,609, or $.12 per share, for the same period last year. Revenues for the second quarter of 1993 were $36.5 million, an increase of 18.6 percent, compared with revenues of $30.8 million reported for the second quarter of 1992.
 Net income for the first six months of 1993 increased 17.4 percent to $8,698,606, or $.27 per share, up from $7,411,433, or $.23 per share, for the same period last year. Revenues for the first six months of 1993 were $72.1 million, an increase of 19.5 percent, compared with revenues of $60.3 million reported for the first six months of 1992.
 Commenting on the company's performance, Richard W. Ussery, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of TSYS, stated: "We are excited about our performance for the second quarter and first six months of 1993. The second half of 1993 should also be exciting with the start-up of TS2 (TS-squared). We believe continued improvements in operating efficiencies along with the growth of our core business will provide an excellent financial performance for the remainder of 1993."
 TSYS is the second-largest credit card and private label transaction processing company in the world. The company is based in Columbus and provides credit card institutions with a comprehensive on-line system of data processing services marketed as THE TOTAL SYSTEM(SM). TSYS serves 114 credit card issuers in 34 states, Puerto Rico and Canada, representing over 32 million cardholders and 258,000 merchant accounts.
