TSS LTD. TO ROLL OUT ITS LOCAL AREA MERCHANT PROGRAM TO ALL OF ITS 'THE SAVINGS SPOT' INSTALLATIONS

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- TSS Ltd. (NASDAQ: TSSL) announced today that it will roll out its local merchant program, making it a permanent feature of "The Savings Spot(R)", the company's in-store electronic promotional program. TSS has been operating the local merchant program in conjunction with the Innovative Coupon Company (ICC), a private California corporation that TSS helped to create and launch last year.
In making the announcement, Michael A. Clark, president, said, "This decision is based on ICC revenues generated by the program at Ralphs in southern California and in a group of supermarkets located in the Washington, D.C. area belonging to a major chain. During 9 months at Ralphs, utilizing only 8 slots per kiosk, local area merchant advertising generated average revenues per store of $898 a month. At the Washington, D.C. stores, where all 32 slots were devoted to local area merchant ads, the average revenue generated per month per store has been $4,758 during the four months that the program has been installed.
"Because this program has fulfilled our expectations, TSS has hired Hal Brin, who had been president of Innovative Coupon, and other key members of that company. He will be vice president, in charge of the western U.S. sales region. TSS will now be sole operator of the local area merchant program and Innovative Coupon Company will cease its operations."
Mr. Clark said that local merchants are expected to account for from 25 percent to 50 percent of the 32 advertising slots in the TSS kiosks. This means that up to 16 ad panels on the kiosks will be provided to local area merchants, who will prominently display cross-promotional materials designed to drive traffic to the terminal located at the host retail chain store.
Mr. Clark said, "The local merchant ad feature of `The Savings Spot' program delivers strong new values to consumers, providing a powerful new out-of-home electronic promotion vehicle for local merchants. We are pleased with its demonstrated success for TSS as a revenue producer."
