TSI Software's Mercator Accelerates SAP Solution Implementations Across SAP Key Vertical Sectors.

PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 14, 1999--

Improved Service Delivery, eCommerce Integration Among the Benefits

Realized by Hershey Foods, Bank One, Others

TSI International Software Ltd. (NASDAQ: TSFW), a leading provider of enterprise application integration (EAI) and eBusiness integration software, today announced successful customer implementations of the SAP(TM) inter-enterprise business solution using Mercator(R) across each of the SAP six vertical market sectors. Customers include Hershey Foods, Millennium Inorganic Chemicals, Bank One, Oce Printing Systems, Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Virginia Power, among many others.

Within each industry sector, Mercator enabled the customers to integrate highly complex legacy and best-of-breed application environments with their SAP backbone, execute batch and event-driven integration scenarios, and accelerate SAP solution benefits through faster implementation.

"Companies such as Hershey, Bank One and Oce Printing illustrate how today's enterprises are effectively reinventing themselves to improve service delivery and optimize performance," said Connie Galley, president and chief executive officer of TSI Software. "We are committed to helping SAP customers extend the benefits of the SAP solution across the enterprise. Our Mercator integration broker enables SAP customers to rapidly implement eBusiness integration scenarios from the Web all the way through the supply chain so they can achieve maximum value of ownership from their SAP solutions."

Hershey Foods (Sector: Consumer Goods)

In 1997, Hershey Foods Corporation, the leading North American manufacturer of quality chocolate and non-chocolate confectionery, selected Mercator to provide a scalable, enterprise-wide integration broker capable of successfully running the multiple integration scenarios encountered during the replacement of its legacy system with the SAP solution.

"With a phased SAP implementation, we were routinely changing the R/3 configurations. We needed an integration broker that could respond quickly to changes," said Frank Lentini, integration team leader for Hershey Foods Corporation. "Mercator provided us with the flexibility and agility to roll with the punches and meet our go-live dates."

Hershey's business requires heavy utilization of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to communicate with retailers, distributors and suppliers. Mercator was used to integrate Hershey's existing EDI system with key applications such as SAP R/3 and Manugistics. Hershey implemented the SAP solution in phases starting with Canadian Operations, which went live in 1998, and ending with US Operations, which went live in July 1999.

Millennium Inorganic Chemicals (Sector: Process Industries)

Millennium Inorganic Chemicals, the world's second largest producer of Titanium Dioxide, used for whiteness, brightness and opacity in coatings, paints and plastics, uses Mercator as an integration broker for SAP solutions in three regions worldwide. Millennium used Mercator for integrating multiple legacy systems with SAP solutions during rollouts in Australia, the U.S., and Europe, all successfully completed in 1999. In addition, Mercator provides ongoing integration of SAP Human Resources(TM) and Quality Management applications with Millennium's Oracle database.

"We have found Mercator both easy to use and powerful in addressing our varied requirements," said Terry Dellavecchia, SAP Technical Development Manager, Millennium Inorganic Chemicals. "We were able to meet our go-live dates in part to the flexibility and scalability of Mercator."

Bank One (Sector: Financial Services)

Bank One, the fifth-largest U.S. bank offering a full range of financial services to commercial and business customers and consumers, relies on the SAP Strategic Enterprise Management Profitability Analysis (SEMPA) application to better understand and serve its customers. The multi-dimensional analyses which SEMPA delivers are only as good as the data being analyzed, and in Bank One's case, that data had to be assembled from a vast array of incompatible applications, each with its own technical architecture and data semantics.

Bank One selected Mercator to integrate data from 35 legacy systems with SEMPA. Mercator enabled the implementation team to achieve productivity levels not possible with manual coding for the creation and testing of numerous integration scenarios. This increased productivity enabled Bank One to meet implementation deadlines and begin achieving SEMPA benefits earlier than would otherwise have been possible.

"Mercator was key to enabling Bank One to become the first North American bank to go live with the SAP SEMPA application," said Craig Coit, senior vice president, Bank One. "Using Meractor, Bank One can quickly respond to changes and tackle highly complex integration scenarios in a rich and easy-to-use environment."

Oce Printing Systems (Sector: Discrete Manufacturing)

Oce Printing Systems USA Inc. manufactures, markets, and services high-end printers. Its customers are large enterprises such as long distance phone service providers, utilities, and others with high volume printing requirements. Oce relies on SAP as its enterprise solution backbone, implementing SAP Financials, Controlling, Materials Management, Sales and Distribution, and Production Planning applications to achieve faster time to market.

Mercator played a key role in enabling Oce to successfully implement the SAP solution within an accelerated time frame of just six months. In addition, Oce was able to trim its integration budget by 24 percent due to Mercator's breadth and ease of use, and the fact that Oce was able to meet its objectives with Mercator without additional hiring.

"We originally planned to spend thirty percent of our implementation budget on interfacing and conversion, but with Mercator, the cost was only six percent," said John Wolf, chief information officer of Oce. "This was because Mercator eliminated the need to hand-code any interfaces, saving us considerable time, resources and money."

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Sector: Public Sector)

In February 1999, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Canada's national police service, successfully went live with its enterprise solution after using Mercator for initial data conversion between its mainframe legacy systems and SAP solutions. RCMP's IBM consultant recommended Mercator because of TSI Software's extensive knowledge and expertise in SAP application integration. TSI Software is the only EAI vendor with five SAP interface certifications.

Virginia Power (Sector: Service Providers)

Virginia Power is a leading electric utility serving more than two million homes and businesses across most of Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. Headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, the 9,000-person company operates 80 generating units, including four nuclear units, and has generating efficiencies ranked among the nation's best.

Early in 1999, the company completed a major implementation of the SAP solution, involving financial, human resources and supply-management applications. More than a dozen interfaces built with Mercator integrate the new SAP solution with other applications throughout the company and with IBM's MQSeries messaging middleware. Mercator-based integration is helping the company meet its objective of making internal processes and systems run efficiently throughout the enterprise in an increasingly competitive environment.
