TRUNKLINE GAS COMPANY IMPLEMENTS ORDER 636 SERVICES

HOUSTON, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Trunkline Gas Company, a subsidiary of Panhandle Eastern Corporation ("PEC") (NYSE: PEL), today began operating under Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Order 636. With Trunkline's implementation of restructured services, PEC has become the nation's largest natural gas pipeline company operating under the new regulatory structure.
"We are pleased to be at the forefront of offering restructured services under Order 636," said Dennis Hendrix, chairman and president. "We believe implementation moves the natural gas pipeline industry toward a market driven environment which will result in more flexible and efficient services for all customers."
Order 636 requires interstate natural gas pipeline companies to unbundle the traditional sales service from transportation and storage services, which must be offered separately.
In May, PEC subsidiary Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company was one of the first companies to implement Order 636. Affiliates Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation and Algonquin Gas Transmission Company implemented the order in June.
Panhandle Eastern Corporation, America's natural gas transportation company, operates one of the nation's largest interstate natural gas pipeline systems, providing natural gas to the Midwest and Northeast markets.
