TRUCKERS 'N TROOPERS PROGRAM TO BE KICKED OFF AT C.R. ENGLAND

TRUCKERS 'N TROOPERS PROGRAM TO BE KICKED OFF AT C.R. ENGLAND
Truckers 'N Troopers, a program designed and sponsored by the Utah Motor Transport Association, will be introduced on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 9 a.m. The location for this kickoff meeting will be C.R. England & Sons, a nationwide trucking company headquartered in Utah. Col. Duane Richins, superintendent of the Utah Highway Patrol, will be introducing the program to England drivers.
Truckers 'N Troopers is a coalition organized by the Utah Motor Transport association and the Utah Highway Patrol. According to Gordon Lambert, spokesman for the program, "It could set a precedent for similar programs all over the country."
The program is designed to promote highway safety with the involvement of the general public. Participating truckers will display a placard asking motorists and truckers to call 800-56-TRUCK to report unsafe or discourteous truck driving, or unsafe road conditions. Positive reports on good drivers will also be encouraged.
To encourage better understanding between truck drivers and Highway Patrol officers, truckers will be riding with troopers in a patrol car and troopers will also be riding with truckers.
Lambert stresses that the program has five major goals to accomplish:
1 -- Enhance and promote highway safety.
2 -- Improve professionalism and overall attitude among truckers and highway patrol personnel.
3 -- Improve the image of the trucking industry to the public, legislature and local authorities.
4 -- Eliminate the "Smokey & The Bandit" image shared by truckers and troopers.
5 -- Promote positive environmental issues relating to the industry.
