TROP ANNOUNCES MAJOR ENHANCEMENTS TO 'THE ISLAND OF LAS VEGAS'

LAS VEGAS, Nev., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Tropicana Resort and Casino, "The Island of Las Vegas(SM)," has announced a three-stage major enhancement to its popular Island-themed property, including the establishment of bird and wildlife habitats, a colorful "Caribbean Village" facade and new main entrance, and a spectacular laser light show on its Outer Island facing "The New Four Corners" of the world- famous Strip.
"These enhancements are designed to create a total Island experience for our visitors and guests," said John Chiero, president and general manager of the Tropicana. "With the soon-to-be opened Luxor and MGM Grand Hotel/Theme Park joining the Tropicana and Excalibur, we will become 'The New Four Corners' of the Strip -- a fabulous metropolis of mega-resorts and themed entertainment facilities that will be the hottest four corners of Las Vegas, if not the world!"
Wildlife Walk, the Tropicana's new bird and wildlife habitat environment, is situated on the covered walkway linking the resort's two towers. It features a unique collection of birds, butterflies and wildlife in natural settings.
Visitors taking a stroll down Wildlife Walk will see wildlife ranging from the colorful Toucan to Pygmy Marmosets, among the world's smallest monkeys and a species threatened by the increasing destruction of their tropical forest habitat.
Other wildlife include Eleonora, Bare-eyed, and Moluccan Cockatoos; Musschenbroek's, Ornate and Rainbow Lories; Amazon Parrots and exotic Butterflies. Visitors looking down from the walkway onto the five-acre waterpark can observe beautiful Peacocks, Flamingos, Mandarin Ducks, African Crown Cranes, Black Swans and schools of Koi Fish.
The new facade, surrounding the front, sides and the Inner Island area of the Tropicana, will recreate the feel of a colorful Caribbean village. The facade, and a new main entrance, are scheduled for completion by the end of the year. At night, Tivoli-style lights will make the "Caribbean Village" sparkle on the Las Vegas Strip.
The Tivoli-style lights will also become part of the grand finale for two new laser light shows, "The Birth of An Island" and "Liquid Light Dreams," which will debut in the Spring on the Outer Island facing "The New Four Corners" of the Las Vegas Strip. The laser light shows will feature special graphics, fog, exciting music and characters to entertain visitors before they go into the Tropicana.
The three-stage enhancement is the next phase of the Tropicana's master plan, which started with the creation of "The Island of Las Vegas" theme in 1986. The transformation of the Tropicana into a world-class destination resort included the creation of a five-acre water park with lagoons, spas, waterfalls, a giant waterslide and the world's largest indoor-outdoor swimming pool. The island also became home to a number of exotic birds and fish.
With the increasing popularity of the Island theme, the Tropicana created the outer Island in 1991, a complete 1 1/2 acre tropical setting designed over an underground parking garage. The Outer Island includes two huge Aku Aku gods positioned in the front, a Polynesian long house and 7,000 square feet of man-made rock, including a waterfall.
The Tropicana's new enhancements will add another exciting dimension to "The New Four Corners" on the Las Vegas Strip, and an opportunity for people all over the world to experience "The Island of Las Vegas!"
