SUNNYVALE, Calif., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Trimble Navigation Ltd. (NASDAQ: TRMB) and Interphase Technologies Inc. announced today that Interphase has selected Trimble's SV6 series GPS engine and marine antenna for the 1994 Interphase Marine Pilot GPS. The minimum value of the purchase by Interphase is $1.4 million. Charles Hicks, president of Interphase, said, "After evaluating a number of alternatives, we chose Trimble due to its history of product reliability, engineering support and performance." Hicks continued, "Our successful partnership with Trimble over the past three years and their competitive pricing were key factors in our decision-making process."
Charles Trimble, chief executive officer and president of Trimble, added, "I am very pleased to partner with Interphase due to their demonstrated ability to develop and market affordable, high-quality marine products."
Interphase's low-cost, multi-channel Pilot GPS is used on sportfishing, light commercial and recreational boats for accurate navigation and position in combination with Interphase fishfinders. An additional feature of the Pilot GPS is that it's easy to interface with DGPS (differential correction)-ready GPS receivers for sportfishing and recreational boaters.
Trimble Navigation is a world leader in the emerging commercial markets for satellite-based navigation, positioning and communication data products. These products are sold in a variety of international vertical markets including land survey, seismic and hydrographic survey, GIS data capture, military, general aviation, commercial and military aviation, marine, communications, tracking and OEM. Founded in 1978 and located in Sunnyvale, Trimble has been a leader in providing GPS solutions since 1984.
Interphase Technologies Inc. was founded in 1985 with the introduction of the Interphase 20/20(R) CRT-based sonar fishfinder aimed at the sportfishing market. Innovative application of the technology, ease of use and outstanding value quickly made Interphase a leading supplier worldwide. This same approach led to the successful introduction of an LCD-based line of fishfinders, Loran C and GPS navigation receivers in the following years for the sportfishing and recreational boating market.
