TRIBUNE REVENUES RISE 13.7% IN MARCH, UP 11.1% YEAR TO DATE; TELEVISION INCREASES 11.1%; NEWSPAPER AD REVENUES UP 8.2%

 CHICAGO, April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Tribune's (NYSE: TRB) combined revenues rose 13.7 percent for the March period, the four weeks ending Mar. 27, 1994. Combined year-to-date revenues for the publishing, broadcasting and entertainment businesses showed a 11.1 percent increase.
 Newspaper advertising strength and contributions from recent acquisitions in interactive multimedia and book publishing pushed publishing group revenues up 18 percent in March, up 14.4 percent year- to-date. Of the three newspaper advertising revenue categories, retail was up 4.2 percent for the period and up 4.4 percent year-to-date; general was ahead 8.3 percent for the period, up 17.3 percent year-to- date; and classified was up 13.0 percent for the period, up 12.5 percent year-to-date.
 Newspaper advertising linage rose 10.0 percent for the period and was up 7.8 percent for the year-to-date. Full-run linage increased 6.8 percent in March, and was up 7.1 percent on the year; part-run linage was ahead by 7.1 percent for the period, up 4.7 percent year-to- date; and preprint was up 17.4 percent on the period, ahead 12.5 percent for the year. Newspaper circulation revenues increased 0.3 percent for the period, up 0.4 percent year-to-date.
 "Other" publishing revenues were up 278.0 percent for March, up 126.7 percent for the year, and included results from Contemporary Books, Compton's and The Wright Group, acquired in July 1993, September 1993, and February 1994 respectively.
 Combined broadcasting and entertainment revenues rose 5.8 percent for the period, up 4.2 percent year-to-date.
 March television revenues rose 11.2 percent, up 5.4 percent year- to-date. Radio revenues increased 3.2 percent, and were up 3.6 percent year-to-date. Entertainment revenues for the period decreased 19.8 percent, and were down 2.4 percent for the year.

Tribune publishes six daily newspapers, operates eight television and six radio stations, produces and syndicates information and programming, publishes books and information in print and digital formats, and has an ownership interest in one of Canada's largest newsprint manufacturers.
