TRIBUNE MEDIA REVENUES UP 6.8 PERCENT IN SEPTEMBER; PUBLISHING REVENUES UP 10.0 PERCENT

 CHICAGO, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Combined revenues for Tribune Company's (NYSE: TRB) publishing, broadcasting and entertainment businesses were up 6.8 percent for the September period, the four weeks ending Sept. 26, excluding 1992 results from discontinued operations. Revenues increased 6.3 percent for the first nine months of 1993 on the same basis.
 Publishing revenues were up 10.0 percent for the period, up 4.6 percent year to date. This included revenues from Contemporary Books and Compton's Multimedia, acquired in July and September, respectively. Newspaper advertising revenues were up 4.0 percent in the period, up 3.9 percent YTD. Of the three newspaper advertising revenue categories, classified was up 9.0 percent for the period, up 10.1 percent YTD; retail was up 4.7 percent in the period, up 3.2 percent YTD; and general was down 9.7 percent in the period, down 9.1 percent YTD. Circulation revenues were up 5.3 percent in the period, up 4.6 percent YTD.
 Combined broadcasting and entertainment revenues were up 2.1 percent in the period, up 9.1 percent YTD. Television revenues were up 3.4 percent in the period, up 13.6 percent YTD. Radio revenues were up 4.4 percent in the period, up 17.4 percent YTD. Entertainment revenues were down 2.2 percent in the period, down 6.0 percent YTD. TV revenues include those from WPHL-TV in Philadelphia, acquired in June 1992; radio revenues include two Denver stations acquired in January 1993. Entertainment revenues from 1992 include two TV programs that ran from January to August and were then cancelled.
 Excluding WPHL from the year-to-date and the two radio stations from the period and the year-to-date, consolidated revenues increased 4 percent for the period and year-to-date, respectively.
 Tribune is a leading information and entertainment company. Tribune publishes six daily newspapers, operates seven television and six radio stations, produces and syndicates information and programming, publishes books and information in print and digital formats, and has an interest in one of Canada's largest newsprint manufacturers.
