TRIBUNE MEDIA REVENUES UP 5 PERCENT IN AUGUST; NEWSPAPER PUBLISHING REVENUES UP 5.8 PERCENT

 CHICAGO, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Combined revenues for Tribune's (NYSE: TRB) newspaper publishing, broadcasting and entertainment businesses were up 5.0 percent for the August period, the four weeks ended Aug. 29, excluding 1992 results from discontinued operations. Revenues increased 6.3 percent for the first eight months of 1993 on the same basis.
 Overall newspaper revenues were up 5.8 percent for the period, year- to-date (YTD) up 4.0 percent. Newspaper advertising revenues were up 4.8 percent, YTD up 3.9 percent. Of the three newspaper advertising revenue categories, classified was up 8.7 percent, YTD up 10.3 percent; retail was up 3.6 percent, YTD up 3.1 percent; and general was down 2.8 percent, YTD down 9.0 percent. Circulation revenues were up 6.5 percent, YTD up 4.5 percent.
 Combined broadcasting and entertainment revenues were up 3.7 percent, YTD up 10.1 percent. Television revenues were up 8.9 percent, YTD up 14.9 percent. Radio revenues were down 1.3 percent, YTD up 19.5 percent. Entertainment revenues were down 6.9 percent, YTD down 6.5 percent. TV revenues include those from WPHL-TV in Philadelphia, acquired in June 1992; radio revenues include two Denver stations acquired in January 1993. Entertainment revenues from 1992 include two TV programs that ran from January to August and were then cancelled. Excluding WPHL from the year-to-date and the two radio stations from the period and the year-to-date, consolidated revenues increased 5 percent for the period and 4 percent year-to-date.
 Tribune is a leading information and entertainment company. Tribune publishes six daily newspapers, operates seven television and six radio stations, produces and syndicates information and programming, publishes books and information in print and digital formats, and has an interest in one of Canada's largest newsprint manufacturers. Tribune completed its purchase of Compton's Multimedia Publishing Group last week, and earlier completed purchase of Contemporary Books, Inc.

 (A) -- As a result of the Quno initial public offering completed in February 1993, newsprint operations revenues will no longer be reported as part of the company's consolidated operating revenues beginning in 1993. For purposes of this report and to enhance comparability, 1992 newsprint operations revenues and the related intercompany sales amounts have been removed.
 (B) -- 1992 and 1993 revenues exclude the Palo Alto daily and weekly newspapers. The company ceased publication of these newspapers on March 12, 1993.
 (C) -- Includes WPHL in Philadelphia since its acquisition in June 1992. Excluding WPHL, television revenues increased 9 percent for the year to date.
 (D) -- Includes two Denver stations since their acquisition in January 1993. Excluding the two Denver radio stations, radio revenues decreased 12 percent for the period and increased 6 percent for the year to date.
