TRIAD EXPANDS ELECTRONIC CATALOG OPERATION INTO EUROPE
WITH ESTABLISHMENT OF DATA FACILITY IN IRELAND
LIVERMORE, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The emerging role of Triad Systems Corp. (NASDAQ: TRSC) as a key information provider to its markets expanded to the international level today with the company's establishment of a database subsidiary in Longford, Ireland.
Triad, with the support of the Industrial Development Authority of Ireland (IDA), will lease a facility to house its international data operations. The facility, to be operational later in 1992, will create, manage and distribute Triad's initial database products for the international automotive market. It will be predominantly staffed by locally recruited and trained employees, and the first phase of operations will create about 100 new Triad jobs.
The company's domestic data operations, which provide information products used by more than 20,000 automotive counter positions and have generated increasing levels of recurring revenues, will remain headquartered in Livermore.
"This is a major milestone in our strategy of expanding our informational technology to the worldwide marketplace and creating new sources of recurring revenues generated by our database products," said Triad President and Chief Executive Officer James R. Porter. "We appreciate the support of the IDA in establishing this operation and look forward to a close working relationship."
Ireland Minister for Trade and Marketing Terry Leyden T.D. said Triad "has an established reputation in its field in the U.S., which augurs well for its expansion into European markets. Triad will provide valuable employment opportunities for young educated Irish people."
The Longford facility will initially create, manage and distribute Electronic Catalog and Telepricing services to support automotive business management systems marketed in the United Kingdom by Triad's Tridex subsidiary. Tridex has nearly 550 automotive systems in operation in the United Kingdom.
The second phase of Triad's database expansion will be into strategically selected European Community nations with large automotive populations.
"Taken in its entirety, the European automobile population compares favorably with that of the United States," Porter said. "European Community countries alone have about 148 million vehicles, and that number is growing at about 3 percent annually."
Porter said Triad expects the database products developed at the Longford facility to have a significant impact on the European automotive market, similar to that of Triad's domestic Electronic Catalog offerings.
"Economic and competitive conditions are very similar in the domestic and international automotive markets," Porter said. "There is an increasing need for information management tools that can mean the difference between success and failure in a very competitive environment. We pioneered the technology that provided those tools in the United States, and look forward to doing the same for the international market."
Winner of the 1991 Information Technology Association of American Total Quality Award, Triad is a leading provider of business and information management solutions for the automotive aftermarket and retail hardgoods industry. Utilizing Triad's unique databases, the Information Services organization is the company's fastest growing unit. Triad's turnkey computer systems are supported by a nationwide customer services operation and financing.
