TRIAD'S INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION CONTINUES WITH ELECTRONIC
CATALOG FOR THE CANADIAN AUTOMOTIVE AFTERMARKET
LIVERMORE, Calif., April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Triad Systems Corp. (NASDAQ: TRSC) today announced the further international expansion of its proprietary databases of automotive parts and prices with the introduction of its Electronic Catalog into Canada. Introduced in 1984, Triad's Electronic Catalog and its derivative workstation products have been highly successful in the American aftermarket and now serve more than 20,000 automotive counter positions.
The new product is created specifically for the Canadian automotive aftermarket, containing vehicles imported from the United States and other countries along with those sold only in Canada, such as Pontiac's Firefly, Tempest and Acadian, the Eagle 2000 GTX, Nissan Micra, Suzuki SJ410 and the Hyundai Pony. Covering vehicles produced since 1980, the Canadian Electronic Catalog will be updated monthly.
"Canada's estimated 2,400 jobbers, like their American counterparts, face intense competitive pressures and are seeking means of increasing transaction levels and amounts, along with improving their overall productivity and profitability," said Donald C. Wood, Triad's vice president of Information Services. "Our database products have proved to improve gross sales, reduce costly returns, generate special order sales, increase sales of related parts and significantly reduce new employee training time, all of which have a positive impact on the bottom line."
Wood added that the Canadian Electronic Catalog's introduction coincides with an increasing awareness among automotive jobbers of the positive impact automation can have on the efficiency of their operations.
Introducing the Electronic Catalog into Canada continues Triad's strategy of expanding its presence outside of the continental United States. In January, the company established a database subsidiary in Longford, Ireland, to develop and market an Electronic Catalog for the United Kingdom. In February, Triad began marketing its automotive aftermarket business and information management products in Puerto Rico.
Utilizing Triad's proprietary databases, the Information Services organization is the company's fastest growing unit. Triad, winner of the 1991 Information Technology Association of America Total Quality Award, is the leading provider of business and information management solutions for the automotive aftermarket and retail hardgoods industry. Triad's turnkey computer systems are supported by a nationwide customer services operation and financing.
