TRI-STATE LOTTERIES EXTEND CONTRACTS WITH GTECH

 WEST GREENWICH, R.I., Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- GTECH (NYSE: GTK) announced today that the Tri-State Lotteries, which consists of the Maine State Lottery Commission, the New Hampshire Sweepstakes Commission and the Vermont Lottery Commission, has extended its facility management contracts with the company until June 2000. The three contracts, between GTECH and each state lottery authority, were due to expire in June 1995.
 Under the terms of the new contracts, GTECH will replace the central computer system which serves all three states, as well as all the lottery terminals, with state-of-the-art equipment. In addition to replacing 2,200 terminals overall, GTECH will supply additional terminals to each respective lottery contractually agreed upon. The total value of the contracts is approximately $62 million over the next seven years.
 Under GTECH's contract with the New Hampshire Sweepstakes Commission, GTECH will supply, operate and maintain an automated instant ticket accounting and validation system. GTECH's system provides the security and accountability of on-line technology to instant ticket games, maximizing lottery efficiency and security as well as retailer and player convenience.
 In commenting on the announcement, GTECH Chairman and CEO, Guy B. Snowden, said, "Replacing the Tri-State Lotteries existing system with state-of-the-art GTECH equipment and technology will allow the citizens of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont to enjoy efficient, convenient lottery games for years to come."
 GTECH designs, produces, implements, operates and services computerized networks for government-sponsored or licensed lotteries on five continents. In addition, GTECH provides a wide variety of instant ticket support services. GTECH currently has contracts to supply and/or operate lottery systems for 26 U.S. customers and 35 jurisdictions outside of the United States.
 GTECH's lottery business employs approximately 3,100 people worldwide, including approximately 1,000 people in Rhode Island.
