TREUHAND LAUNCHES WORLDWIDE ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN FOR THE SALE OF EAST GERMAN BUSINESS

 TREUHAND LAUNCHES WORLDWIDE ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN
FOR THE SALE OF EAST GERMAN BUSINESS
LONDON, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Treuhandanstalt, the East German privatization agency, is launching a worldwide advertising and tender campaign to find further non-German investors for some of the businesses it still owns. The agency has appointed Price Waterhouse to help by using its international network of corporate finance offices to respond to investors locally.
Karlhermann Klottschen, head of the Treuhand's investor services department since Jan. 1, 1992, said, "The aim of the campaign is to maintain and, if possible, speed up our privatization process which is currently running at over 400 business sales per month. The first two industries which will be marketed this way are the non-ferrous metal foundries and wood and furniture trades. Additional industries will follow shortly thereafter."
This is a further step by the Treuhand in trying to attract foreign investors into eastern Germany. The agency has recently opened a number of overseas offices including some in the U.S. and Japan, as well as appointing a number of 'Treuhand Ambassadors' such as the MP Peter Walker in the UK, Henri Monod in France, Dr. Raffaele Durante in Italy, and Dr. Gerd Graenz in Austria."
The Treuhand has asked Price Waterhouse to involve 20 of its offices throughout Europe and in New York, Toronto, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Price Waterhouse's role will involve providing information about the businesses for sale and the opportunities available to investors in eastern Germany.
Volkert Klaucke, the Price Waterhouse partner in Frankfurt heading this project, said, "We have had a close working relationship with the Treuhand since our first M&A assignment for them in August 1990. Using our worldwide network of offices is a logical extension of our work for them."
Thomas A. Leipzig, Price Waterhouse's U.S. National Director of Corporate Finance Services, speaking in New York, remarked, "It is because we have an integrated Corporate Finance Services network that we are able to market this range of businesses throughout Europe and the world."
