TREND TIPS: [...].

Bring the outdoors in by spraying your tree with fake snow (Decorative Snow Spray, PS1.75, Wilko) or cheat with a snow-tipped artificial tree.

Red and white crockery looks great at Christmas, but can be used all year round. Dress it up with co-ordinating paper or cotton napkins tied with pine cones and ribbon.

Mini evergreen trees make cheap but effective table decorations. Wrap red felt, a piece of hessian or some wrapping paper around the pot to disguise it.

Painting a doorframe in a bright shade looks super stylish, but takes just minutes. Want something less permanent? Run a strip of coloured or patterned removable Japanese masking tape - known as 'washi tape' - around the door instead. (Amazon.co.uk has a good selection).

Make a feature of your presents by sticking to red and white patterned giftwrapping. Or tie plain brown craft paper with festive ribbons - grab a few lengths for free from the bagging area the next time you visit Ikea!
