THE Babis, the forefathers of Aaliya Sultana Babi, came from Afghanistan with the Mughals and settled in Delhi. When the Mughals went to Gujarat, they followed them there. They were brave warriors and were instrumental in conquering many areas in Gujarat. Happy with their services, the Mughals gifted them the kingdom of Balasinor.

The Babis were three brothers.

The eldest got Balasinor, the middle one got Junagad and the youngest got Radhanpur. Late Bollywood heartthrob Parveen Babi was a descendant of the Babis.

The present Nawab of Balasinor ascended the throne when he was only nine months. As he was a minor, the late Maharaja of Lunawada acted as his guardian.

In 1948, the state merged with the Indian union.

In 2009, Princess Aaliya travelled to England to take part in a BBC reality show Undercover Princesses . In the show she was supposed to live a normal life and search for a Mr Right. Two others princesses were also part of the show.
