TRAVELERS TO MATCH EMPLOYEE HURRICANE CONTRIBUTIONS

TRAVELERS TO MATCH EMPLOYEE HURRICANE CONTRIBUTIONS
HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Travelers (NYSE: TIC)

today announced it will match employee contributions to aid victims of Hurricane Andrew and donate that money to hurricane relief organizations.
The program is two-pronged. The Travelers Companies foundation will match cash contributions dollar-for-dollar to the American Red Cross or The Salvation Army. Employee contributions made between Aug. 24 and Sept. 30 qualify for the corporate match.
In addition, Travelers has arranged for employees on Florida and Louisiana to voluntarily donate one full day of unused vacation time from 1992 towards hurricane relief. For every day donated, Travelers will contribute $200 . The total amount will then be divided between the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army relief efforts in Lousiana and Florida.
"We are very proud of what our employees have done already in the way of giving," said Edward H. Budd, chairman and chief executive officer of The Travelers. "This is our way of saying, 'Travelers fully supports what you are doing and wants to help in every way possible.'"
Aside from cash donations, Travelers employees donated, packaged and shipped more than 550 boxes of food and personal items to Florida to assist in the relief effort. Over the past two weeks, employees arranged for the purchase and shipment of 1,500 gallons of drinking water to victims of Andrew.
"When a disaster like this happens, it is so heartening to see our people pull together to help those in need," said Budd. "Some of the employees who helped arrange food shipments were involved in similar projects during hurricanes Gilbert and Hugo. The concern and generosity of these people seem to have no limits."
