TRAVEL TO MEXICO WILL BOOM IN '93; HOTEL DISCOUNTS AVAILABLE

TROY, Mich., Nov. 20 ~PRNewswire~ -- In 1993, more Americans than ever will travel to Mexico, according to the U.S. Travel and Tourism Administration (Commerce Department) which predicts a 7.1-percent increase over 1992. Over 18,346,000 U.S. citizen departures are projected in 1993.
Travel research analysts say the dramatic increase is due to the after-effects of the Gulf War, a U.S. dollar that has a higher value in Mexico than in other countries, Mexico's close proximity to the U.S.A. and the intense ongoing effort of the Mexican government to promote in- bound tourism.
Since 1990, Mexico has been the No. 1 international destination for U.S. travelers (outpacing Canada and Europe) -- a trend recognized early by numerous travel promotion and tourism companies such as AAA and Entertainment Publications Inc., the world's leading publisher of leisure and recreational discount savings programs.
New AAA Ratings System in Progress
AAA, in cooperation with the Mexican government, is currently standardizing the ratings of hotels, resorts and roadways throughout the country to prepare for this increased interest. Over 250 hotels have met or exceeded AAA lodging standards. The company predicts that up to 600 properties will ultimately be approved.
Over 200 Top-Quality Properties Offer 50 Percent Off Room Rates
Improved trade relations between the two countries and the extensive selection of Mexican hotels and resorts participating in the Entertainment(R) hotel consumer discount program are important incentives for travelers.
Featuring major hotels in the most popular Mexican travel destinations -- Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco and Baja California -- as well as dozens of additional cities and resort areas, Entertainment's Travel North America at Half Price(TM) includes over 200 top-quality hotels and resorts that offer 50 percent off regular room rates. With just one night's use, the $24 discount travel edition pays for itself.
Entertainment expects that Americans will continue to benefit as Mexico continues to promote in-bound tourism. Travel North America at Half Price, for example, will continue to open doors for American tourists who want to visit various areas of the country and maximize their leisure dollars.
