TRAVEL PORTS EARNINGS UP IN THIRD QUARTER

ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Travel Ports of America, Inc. (NASDAQ: TPOA) reported a profit of $221,849, or four cents a share, for its third quarter ended Jan. 31, 1993. In the same quarter last year, the company earned $92,702 or two cents per share.
After adjusting prior year for the sale of a marginally unprofitable facility in Pennsylvania in August 1992, sales on a same unit basis were up $233,787. Same unit diesel gallon sales were up 5.6 percent for the quarter. This sales trend is the result of the closing of some "tax cheat" locations and an improving economy.
Year-to-date, Travel Ports reported nine-month earnings of $573,961, or eleven cents per share, compared with a profit of $340,734 or seven cents a share, for last year. Again adjusting for the sold facility in Pennsylvania, sales on a same unit basis were down $1,060,280 or 1.0 percent.
Travel Ports, headquartered in Rochester, operates 16 truck and motor plazas in six states (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina and Indiana).
