Flurry of fireworks to mark Newport's 125th

The final events to mark the city of Newport's 125th anniversary will happen over the Fourth of July, culminating in a massive display of 125 celebratory explosions at the end of the annual fireworks display.

Mayor Bill Bain calls it "a lot like a 125-gun salute."

Here's the line-up of special events:

July 4 - Sea otter encounter for children ages 8 and up at the Oregon Coast Aquarium at 2820 S.E. Ferry Slip Road.

July 4 - Free concert by the Newport Symphony Orchestra at 4 p.m. at the high school.

July 5 - Nye Beach Clambake with a seafood barbecue, live music, food booths, arts and crafts and a neighborhood history celebration.
