TRANZONIC CITED AS ONE OF WORLD'S TOP SMALL COMPANIES
CLEVELAND, Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second time in as many months, The Tranzonic Companies (AMEX: TNZ) has been singled out as an especially successful smaller company.
The Cleveland-based manufacturer/distributor of paper, cloth and vinyl products was listed by "World Link," the magazine of the World Economic Forum, as one of 150 "Hidden Champion" companies. The World Economic Forum, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, is a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to worldwide economic and social progress. Tranzonic was one of 15 U.S. companies included in the list of organizations with sales of US $50 million to $500 million.
The companies, according to "World Link," were selected as mid-sized companies which are proving themselves as a leading force behind globalization, product innovation, economic growth and job creation by exploiting communications and production technologies to achieve the economies of scale once available only to large firms.
Last month, Tranzonic was the sole northern Ohio company and one of eight Ohio organizations to be ranked on Forbes Magazine's 1991 list of the "200 Best Small Companies in America."
The Forbes rankings were based on consistent increases in sales, earnings and return on equity during the past five years. Additionally, long-term debt coult not exceed total stockholders' equity. Forbes evaluated more than 4,300 companies with sales between $1 million and $350 million.
Tranzonic, according to Forbes, with a five-year average return on equity of 12.2 percent, ranked 165th in the nation. Its five-year earnings per share growth rate was 15 percent. Its debt equalled one percent of its equity.
Tranzonic has four operating divisions. Its Personal Care Division manufactures and distributes personal hygiene products while the Industrial Textiles Division supplies industrial wiping products. The Housewares Division produces and markets laundry accessories, closet organization products, personal travel organizers and cedar storage units. The Industrial Packaging Division manufactures spiral-wound paper tubes and cores for industry. Tranzonic is listed on the American Stock Exchange.
