TRANSCON INC. ANNOUNCES IT IS TAKING STEPS TOWARD IMPLEMENTING EXPANSION OF TRUCKING OPERATIONS

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Transcon Inc. ("TCI") (NYSE: TCL) today announced it has taken two major steps to implement the company's recently announced plans to expand its current trucking operations.
TCI has acquired certain assets of CAM Regional Transport Inc., a truckload motor carrier based in Brookville, Penn. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The company also said that its subsidiary, Trailblazer Transportation Inc., has been granted temporary authority by the Interstate Commerce Commission to operate the interstate and intrastate operations of C.A. White Inc., a Dallas truckload motor carrier.
As a result of these two steps, Orin S. Neiman, chairman and chief executive officer of TCI, said it is anticipated the company's operating revenues will increase by 10 percent to 15 percent.
In addition, Neiman stated TCI has formed US 1 Transport Inc., a Delaware corporation, which has filed with the ICC for common carrier trucking authority in 48 states. Neiman said that US 1 will form the basis for additional future company motor carrier activities, utilizing company-owned equipment and company drivers. Currently, TCI's operating units contract with independent contractors who provide tractors, trailers and perform driving duties.
In moving forward with its expansion plans, Neiman said these steps represent strategic combinations with other motor carriers which would complement the company's existing operations. Further, he pointed out, they should assist in enabling TCI to utilize its tax loss carryforward of approximately $56 million.
Transcon Inc. is a Los Angeles-based holding company, whose stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. As its operating components, TCI owns Keystone Lines of Orange, Calif., a motor carrier subsidiary, which in turn owns Trailblazer Transportation Inc., a motor carrier of Carrollton, Texas; and TC Services, a real estate and administrative services company based in Los Angeles.
