TRANSCO CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER TO RESIGN

 HOUSTON, May 14 /PRNewswire/ -- John U. Clarke, senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Transco Energy Company (NYSE: E), has submitted his resignation effective May 31, 1993, the company announced today.
 Transco Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer John P. DesBarres said, "We are sorry that John has decided to leave Transco. We thank him for his valued service to the company at a particularly important time in its history, and we wish him well in his future endeavors."
 Clarke said, "Transco has come through a major transition in business environment, strategic direction and management. I'm pleased to have been a part of the management team that completed crucial steps in the financial plan to strengthen the company. After 12 years with Transco, and in view of the progress we have made, I felt that now was an opportune time for me personally to seek new challenges."
 Transco will search internally and externally to fill the position and expects to name a new chief financial officer as soon as possible. In the interim, Larry J. Dagley, Transco senior vice president and controller, will assume those duties, and Henry P. Mixon, vice president, internal audit, will act as controller.
 Transco Energy Company transports natural gas through its interstate pipeline systems to markets in the eastern and midwestern United States, arranges for the transportation and sale of natural gas throughout the U.S., and is active in independent power generation and natural gas vehicle fueling services. Transco also maintains modest positions in other energy-related businesses.
