TRANSCO, TENNECO GAS OFFER COMMON-ACCESS ELECTRONIC BULLETIN BOARD

TRANSCO, TENNECO GAS OFFER COMMON-ACCESS ELECTRONIC BULLETIN BOARD
HOUSTON, Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Transcontinental Gas Pipe Line Corporation ("TGPL") and Tenneco Gas today unveiled a pilot program, Pipe Line Access Network ("PLANET"), that will enable customers common to both pipelines to simultaneously access TRANSIT, TGPL's electronic reservation system, and the TENN-SPEED system, the Tenneco Gas electronic reservation network. PLANET offers customers and shippers the industry's first method for "one-stop shopping," the ability to easily switch between two electronic bulletin boards to conduct business with the pipelines.
"This pilot program is a significant step toward achieving one of the goals for Order 636 set out by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission -- to make electronic bulletin boards easy to use," said John P. DesBarres, Transco Energy
Company chairman, president and chief executive officer. "We are pleased that, working together, Transco and

Tenneco Gas can offer the industry's first common-access electronic system that puts customer service as its highest priority."
"The beauty of this network is that it gives customers immediate access to both our systems, allowing them to take advantage of the competitive services we provide," said Stephen D. Chesebro, president and chief operating officer of Tenneco Gas. "We see simplified access to electronic bulletin boards as an improved service to the customer, and our two companies are taking the lead in this area."
PLANET will be introduced through live demonstrations today in Houston at the Pipeline Electronic Bulletin Board Expo, sponsored by the Natural Gas Association of Houston, held at the Westin Galleria Hotel. Following PLANET's introduction, the two pipelines' customers will participate in a test of the program.
Tenneco Gas transports more than 14 percent of U.S. natural gas needs through a 20,000-mile pipeline system. The Tenneco Gas pipelines that utilize TENN-SPEED are Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company, East Tennessee Natural Gas Company, Midwestern Gas Transmission Company and Viking Gas Transmission Company. Tenneco Gas is a division of Tenneco Inc. (NYSE: TGT), a diversified industrial company with other major business interests in farm and construction equipment, shipbuilding, automotive parts, packaging and chemicals.
TGPL owns and operates 10,000 miles of pipeline extending from the Gulf of Mexico to New York City, including the largest gas gathering system in the Gulf. TGPL is a subsidiary of Transco Energy Company (NYSE: E), which transports natural gas through its interstate pipeline systems to markets in the eastern and midwestern United States, arranges for the transportation and sale of natural gas throughout the United States, and is active in independent power generation and natural gas vehicle fueling services. Transco also maintains modest positions in other energy-related businesses.
