TRANSCANADA JOINS WASHINGTON 10 GAS STORAGE PROJECT

CALGARY, Alberta, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- TransCanada PipeLines Ltd. today announced its participation as an equity partner in a natural gas storage field in southeast Michigan.
"We believe the storage is a logical extension to the services we currently offer our customers and shippers," said Gerald J. Maier, TransCanada's chairman and chief executive officer. "For customers, it assures a further supply when extremely cold weather or upstream supply interruptions put pressures on deliveries. And shippers could use this storage as insurance that contracted deliveries are met."
To be known as Washington 10, the storage field will hold approximately 42 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of natural gas, with TransCanada owning 40 percent of it. Partners include MCN Corp., Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. and Union Gas Ltd. The U.S. $120 million project is expected to be in service in time for the 1995-96 winter.
TransCanada PipeLines Ltd. is one of North America's leading transporters of natural gas. TransCanada also operates significant complementary businesses in natural gas marketing, gas-fueled electric power generation, gas liquids extraction and carbon black manufacturing.
